Ok I must learn more about Moonlake

Hell yeah!!!!

Ok so before I start gushing about my daughter let me introduce some people:

Lakeflower: Moonlake’s mom! She died while giving birth to Moonlake. Moonlake asked for her suffix to be Lake specifically to spite her dad.

Hailstorm: Moonlake’s dad. He’s an asshole. He only got with Lakeflower for status.

Oakbite: Son of Hailstorm’s childhood friends. Hailstorm wanted Moonlake to become mates with him. Oakbite liked her a lot but understood and accepted that she did not like him back. (And later was super supportive when she came out as a lesbian)

So Lakeflower dies. Boohoo, everyone’s sad. Moonlake is raised by another queen in the nursery, Cherrysplash. Nothing really special here, Moonlake considered her as more of a caretaker than her mom. Hailstorm is completely absent during her entire childhood. He just. Never shows up. Ever. During this time she befriends Oakbite (at the time Oakkit) He’s a couple moons older but he decided to hang out with Moonkit and make her feel included rather than playing with his sibling.

They both become apprentices. Moonpaw gets Featherrush as her mentor. Moonpaw views her as an older sister and they become close. It’s during this time that Oakaw starts crushing on Moonpaw, and Moonpaw starts noticing how she likes girls instead of guys. It’s also when Hailstorm actually takes notice of his daughter. Well, he mostly takes notice of Oakpaw’s crush on her, and sees it as a chance to boost his reputation. He talks to Oakpaw’s parents who give him the ok to set up their kids. Hail starts spending more time with Moonpaw, which makes her SO happy that she finally has her dad. She starts to bond with him until finally he drops the bomb.

She sort of just awkwardly laughs it off...she’s suspected Oakpaw had a crush on her but she chose to ignore it in fear of ruining their friendship. Moonpaw tells her dad that she doesn’t really like Oakpaw, or boys for that matter in that way.

This pisses off Hailstorm.

Not because he’s upset about his daughter liking girls! He could care less about that. He’s angry because she’s ruining his chances of boosting his status in the clan. So he keeps pushing the matter and everytime he does Moonpaw pushes back. She’s absolutely crushed to find out that her father cares more about himself and his status than he does about her. She grows resentful and untrusting and starts building up walls.

Oakpaw comes up to her about two or so moons before they could become warrior and confesses his feelings. Moonpaw breaksdown. She’d been hiding all of this from everyone and Oakpaw finally admitting his feelings was the tip of the iceberg. Oakpaw is admittedly crushed. It hurts. But he listens as Moonpaw explains her fathers actions and hesitantly comes out about her attraction to women. He supports her and they go back to being good friends with Moonpaw promising that she will find the perfect girl for Oakpaw.

Their warrior ceremony rolls around. Oakpaw is given the name Oakbite after his great grandfather Wildbite. Moonpaw goes to receive her warrior name.

Hailstorm flinches when Moonpaw is named Moonlake.

He confronts her about it, confused as to why she’d name herself after a mother she never knew instead of the family she has now. Moonlake tells him that Lakeflower was more of a parent then he’d ever be. When Hailstorm dies a few moons later after drowning, Moonlake makes sure she’s as far away from his body as physically possible.

Her walls and untrust that she’d built before remained though, and she felt the need to hide it all. So she created a second personality, one that was loud and brash and obnoxious, but one that no one would assume was hurting. This only got worse when Oakbite was found dead at the edges of the territory.

She is a uh...real piece of work.
